Good turn out with 19 fishing. I'm a novice on this venue, so thought it important to have a walk around to see where I fancied. Didn't fancy Margret's which appeared to be of colour. Got to Georges which looked good. The wind put me off the low numbers. Pegs 18, 10, 8 and 7 would be my choice. 10, 8 and 7 are the longest walks which would put some off going there and is around Chub Island.<p></p><p>Didn't want to be in the early one to pick my peg as wanted some space so happy with 13th to pick. My turn came and only 2 before me had selected Georges so peg 10 it was. I did have great company with Steve Brown on 11. Peg 10 is opposite a very small island with plenty of over hangs, plus it's under a tree which necessitates casting over the left shoulder, both obstacles to keep me on my toes.</p><p>Set up a 7" bodied waggler on 3 lb Maxima and 0.14 GLine hook length to 18 - 808. Can't see face on how much the bushes overhang so had a few casts without the hook to find the best ares. The long Ronnie rig which would be first to try.</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXpDJRe821pdos1aXY9wtCvXEVsuIes6BhDxlMVTjuQc6qQVwdhfPuw2jl4X1yR9zMg1_XFpvvLww1LIBiJVcCqjAhUdMYDwcPFVKJNyxsNE8jyV9-JxB-9edf7oqx_d757xrhGNJIaWWk2-tVwqYsl7tiKDd3oqDvHa5e6uSWBz4tcuzShUlGzhZ0oiI/s2760/DSCF2519.JPG" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="2760" data-original-width="1582" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgXpDJRe821pdos1aXY9wtCvXEVsuIes6BhDxlMVTjuQc6qQVwdhfPuw2jl4X1yR9zMg1_XFpvvLww1LIBiJVcCqjAhUdMYDwcPFVKJNyxsNE8jyV9-JxB-9edf7oqx_d757xrhGNJIaWWk2-tVwqYsl7tiKDd3oqDvHa5e6uSWBz4tcuzShUlGzhZ0oiI/s320/DSCF2519.JPG" width="183" /></a></div>Loose fed some LR's over to the island. The wind was perfect for feeding and casting. Fed the Ronnie line with GB laced with LP's. Soon catching small Ronnie's and a couple of bonus Skimmers on double Pinkie. The line went quite and pulling pack to re cast pricked a Carp which bow waved out of the peg towards peg 8. Refed so time to try the Waggler with single LR on the hook. Had an immediate response from Chub to 3 lb landing five loosing one which hooked up on my keepnet. It went quiet so came off the island a couple of metres and had some Ronnie's to 6 oz and a couple of hard fighting 8 oz Hybrid's. I had been loose feeding the Ronnie line with LR's on the Ronnie rig line and went over that to rest the island line and had some nice Ronnie's. Back out on the island and had some small Chub and more Ronnie's. As the match progress kept switching between the two lines to keep the Ronnie's and small Chub coming.<p></p><p>My silvers weighed 32 lb 7 oz for surprising first overall. Very enjoyable day's fishing at a well managed fishery.</p><p>Thanks to Tony Welsby for the well organised match, guess rover matches are harder to run.</p><p><b>Weigh Sheet:</b></p><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi21R24kXVTgMaTu3J_46V2D5Sz31L2khdZOV1Vykv8OCstpLvxTXhrBVaPV0LjXVBVDGl5dLRkTHhEWfOGTdULk7gK0dFUs74NnVKGMy8J9WTAGFP1dnHRW3j72bNIRywyFwFL0HD0Z8IVTAuLNv7SQOyOOrmKHO5FolpNBpJ4P8ebXJIacmvuhRfInvY/s1440/facebook_1711364453555_7177982773004976791.jpg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1440" data-original-width="1080" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi21R24kXVTgMaTu3J_46V2D5Sz31L2khdZOV1Vykv8OCstpLvxTXhrBVaPV0LjXVBVDGl5dLRkTHhEWfOGTdULk7gK0dFUs74NnVKGMy8J9WTAGFP1dnHRW3j72bNIRywyFwFL0HD0Z8IVTAuLNv7SQOyOOrmKHO5FolpNBpJ4P8ebXJIacmvuhRfInvY/w480-h640/facebook_1711364453555_7177982773004976791.jpg" width="480" /></a></div><br /><p></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p>Silverfox Match Anglinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14766712605215137930noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3981431156970664881.post-14632972096423647432024-03-22T10:49:00.003+00:002024-03-22T10:49:49.117+00:00Thursday 21/03/2024 - Windmill Cost Cutter 500 - Main Lake<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgT2CnDb8uoh7pWAqhPx5GXf93EkFyN9B3vHRIBKfFqh8pnFPWFz19ETtIot0o1zoIuzVJ9KOeN4KPVQLTBZyuq9adXq5pDkxdatT6I7HZt4Q5EGSq-LuJZZn9aQEOBHYQzeN0yJsd3ffzanMFOQdZIWgsHGto7v7WgmP2Lg-uGqebPSOw2Rp1hexj4Uas/s900/DSCF2511.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="627" data-original-width="900" height="139" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgT2CnDb8uoh7pWAqhPx5GXf93EkFyN9B3vHRIBKfFqh8pnFPWFz19ETtIot0o1zoIuzVJ9KOeN4KPVQLTBZyuq9adXq5pDkxdatT6I7HZt4Q5EGSq-LuJZZn9aQEOBHYQzeN0yJsd3ffzanMFOQdZIWgsHGto7v7WgmP2Lg-uGqebPSOw2Rp1hexj4Uas/w200-h139/DSCF2511.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>Geoff was up for a after match curry and why not, something to look forward to. Feeling really good today and up for it.<p></p><p>A full house again. Into the draw bag and peg 1 for me. Haven't been on this peg for quite sometime but have found memory's of catching Silvers. Unfortunately the few that are left are shoaled up down the far end as is most of the Carp. Peg 1 was also a good Carp peg but hasn't shown any recent form. That said decided on a Carp day - who knows?</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8CgilQ2halGFuJbLzgh50L8msbroxjv_ioTxdK-6EYO672qDXuLwM_wrK63LBiCneGWGxTt_y8JChI97ALeldX3o071-mDN1R1LPNkrCz0hwv_WjrcfAaCqN1AFqPSJ7m0iVemt7SsEQbMu55U268eJybEl-9rOtqO5EgL42TmMgOH4TqkOGqvxB4WEU/s900/facebook_1711049303554_7176660938095528924.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="464" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi8CgilQ2halGFuJbLzgh50L8msbroxjv_ioTxdK-6EYO672qDXuLwM_wrK63LBiCneGWGxTt_y8JChI97ALeldX3o071-mDN1R1LPNkrCz0hwv_WjrcfAaCqN1AFqPSJ7m0iVemt7SsEQbMu55U268eJybEl-9rOtqO5EgL42TmMgOH4TqkOGqvxB4WEU/w103-h200/facebook_1711049303554_7176660938095528924.jpg" width="103" /></a></div>Got to the peg without too much mud and even managed to get the trolley down the slight slope. Set up the maggot feeder, a 4x14 Winter to fish top set plus 2 barrels and a 4x12 for long down the RH margin where the reeds where moving. The problem with this peg just up to the reeds its 4 1/2 foot deep which is too deep for margin fishing. However, the Carp were in the reeds and were unlikely to come out anytime soon. So at the start went out four barrels with a shallow margin rig and second flick in hooked a Carp which was far too fast for me and ended up loosing the complete rig - bugger. Had a go on the Winter over micro and LR's and caught a few small Ronnie's. Decided to try the margin again so whilst setting a new rig up put the maggot feeder out which was getting ragged by Silvers. Back into the reeds and lost another Carp - rig OK though! The upshot caught one Carp on the feeder losing one to my poorly tied loop, caught another on the Winter and eventually got a Carp out of the Reeds.<p></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUF7HtguI6aPC5QdyVw3bkMVjrir2E7GnNYBZQ9zzoGzWNMvV31huZXvP_aBz3ETJw6wcThp46wpC4ZqHw2PRUT597WlXXsgZdzQxOOkL6stW1avMR0jCGHKd-y7kJYPdVUm8vFopA7aj1nQdMNK7JK52ET_QAj47VyQJjOH18VI1EvnGM_FH5aXTJWk8/s900/DSCF2513.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="643" data-original-width="900" height="143" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhUF7HtguI6aPC5QdyVw3bkMVjrir2E7GnNYBZQ9zzoGzWNMvV31huZXvP_aBz3ETJw6wcThp46wpC4ZqHw2PRUT597WlXXsgZdzQxOOkL6stW1avMR0jCGHKd-y7kJYPdVUm8vFopA7aj1nQdMNK7JK52ET_QAj47VyQJjOH18VI1EvnGM_FH5aXTJWk8/w200-h143/DSCF2513.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>My few accidental Silvers weighed 1 lb 14 oz and my 3 smallish Carp 13 lb 6 oz for 15 lb 4 oz.<p></p><p>The match was won by Bill Knight (<i>pictured with some of his catch</i>) with 88 lb 13 oz from fancied peg 11 (for both Carp and Silvers at the mo). Bill caught at 13 metres down his RH edge shallow with 8 mm banded pellet and later out in from again shallow. Bill fed nothing all match! Well done Matey.</p><p>The Silvers was won by John Osborne <i>(pictured with the Match winner</i>) with 14 lb 4 oz from peg 9. John caught on caster over loose caster at four barrels. I had nothing to go at in terms of league and pairs but had so far the highest silvers weight. As I suspected the the last match on Taylor's would throw up a bigger silvers weight, so set out to protect my position.<p></p><p>Into the car boot and selected the disc nearest to me - peg 14. Happy with that as it's both a good Carp peg and fancied it for Silvers. If the Silvers weren't cooperative I could swap to Carp. For company on peg 15 was Ricky Mills who I think was happy for me to fish for Silvers and leave the waggler in the pole case.</p><p>Simple set up - short Ronnie Rig and a 4 x14 to fish top set plus one barrel or two.</p><p>Fed left and right for the Ronnie rig and one barrel line all with GB laced with Pinkie and micro an single Pinkie on the hook. Started at one barrel and had three Skimmers and a couple of decent Ronnie's. It didn't take long for an F1 to upset the line. Re-fed it - never to go back and started on the Ronnie rig switching from side to side after topping up. Basically had a great day catching regularly until the last hour when the Carp arrived. Switched to lightly loose feeding Pinkie helped keep a few Silver coming but was comparatively slower.</p><p>Finished with 7 lb 12 oz of F1's and more importantly 14 lb 11 oz of Silvers to keep the top weight. If I fished for the Carp Steve Rogers would have nicked the Silvers payout.</p><p>The match was won again by Bela "Bagger" Bakos (this boy can draw) with 59 lb 13 oz from peg 13. Bela caught mostly down his RH margin at 11 metres fishing triple maggot over potted maggot.</p><p>Well done to all, especially Bri Shanks for running an excellent league - only found one mistake with his adding this year!</p><p>Back to the New Inn for the Result with all the framers. It was happy birthday to John C, well nearly, his car broke down, so not miss out on a few pints and birthday video and a cup cake decided to leave it in the car park.</p><p><b>Top four Individuals:</b></p><p>1. Regular match angler are starting to understand what this might be like.<p></p><p>Travelled with Kev today with the numbers down due to cry off's.</p><p>Dave and Ollie had the draw well sorted - draw on arrival and straight to your peg, giving plenty of time to set up, which was needed. Peg 12 for me another known Carp corner - real Crabtree like. That said expected some Skimmers would be near by.</p><p>Strange peg as had a choice of three places to set up. Picked the one which suited the placement of the keep net. There is some complaints about the pegs but found that once your settled in it's safe and comfortable. The section ran from peg 9 to 16 so plenty of room with peg 9 the next was peg 5. Found myself next to Turbo Tony on peg 13.</p><p>The long and short Ronnie rigs set up plus a 4 x 16 for 7 foot of water which would be used for the last hour when it seemed the bigger Skimmers arrived. Had four lines chosen, all being fed with Pinkie and GB. Fed the first short Ronnie rig and had a run of small Ronnie's before it died which I was to discover was due to Carp. On to the long Ronnie rig and gain another run of small fish until it died but soon hooking a 10 lb Common Carp which just fitted in the landing net - very slender beautifully coloured fish in excellent condition. The up shot picked of some Ronnie until hooked a Carp. Struggled the second half of the match for any consistency. The last ball fed on the Ronnie line had Carp blowing over it. With an hour to go went out on the long line for Skimmers had a couple of 2 ouncers before hooking another Carp. Went for the elastic to pull for a break but breaking the elastic instead of hook length - losing the lot - bugger. Now had hooked Carp on all four lines so couldn't be assed to set up another long rig, favouring to sit with the long Ronnie rig catching the odd fish off the feed whilst gaging for a pint of Peroni.</p><p>My net of small fished weighed 6 lb 10 oz for 3 points and 6th overall! Mistake not to have set up the waggler as this could have avoided the Carp by spraying the lose fed maggots. Partner Phil did well coming second in section which pushed us up to 4th one out of the £. Well done partner lets do it next year.</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguLWjbtZGBgrxff8SXDJ4qDsnIZ89kzkAxJFLLEOmvd32RIh1uy9zGAW7NE30kwpkj8ceq0L-u-ZsSlxCK7E7KRHYrbeQqSqOR6tiF77xTFBP3u3lrqsH8a-9wAL5iz-agELMXGu2ptmNyTBUe8PNEk4tmRWzaHQgHQVVmYX0P5V-0a-HZ1cn_YN1cMHU/s900/IMG_20190207_155522.jpg" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="714" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguLWjbtZGBgrxff8SXDJ4qDsnIZ89kzkAxJFLLEOmvd32RIh1uy9zGAW7NE30kwpkj8ceq0L-u-ZsSlxCK7E7KRHYrbeQqSqOR6tiF77xTFBP3u3lrqsH8a-9wAL5iz-agELMXGu2ptmNyTBUe8PNEk4tmRWzaHQgHQVVmYX0P5V-0a-HZ1cn_YN1cMHU/w159-h200/IMG_20190207_155522.jpg" width="159" /></a></div>The match was won by Kev Winstone (<i>pictured</i>) with 13 lb 14 oz from peg 16. Kev caught more bigger fish than most by alternating two lines at 14.5 metres fishing caster or maggot over GB laced with same. Kev has certainly sorted Farleigh Woods silver taking two first and a second overall. This helped him and Chris Ollis to this years pairs title. Well done lads.<p></p><p>Back to the Red Lion for a pint with very good company and another right laugh. Think we will all remember this years silver league for many reasons, but for me how we have enjoyed and depended relationships. Who said Farleigh Woods was like the Somme, but without the bullets.</p><p><b>Weigh Sheets:</b></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjajWTh2Tz0qCr33_wMGFpZl8VnW_peg1dNw7C8Ueosn8jhmIWnuQyUJZK4BPiuQms3_5bd_TNGUIo9o_RxN1q8d9oWtChVyLdHxf0xsG7jgvA06duaMgteZvPhgGTZ1Zoi4k7GgLO5O9Jv1uaBrVQUhPBsuFvl8cWjO6M9SeYhEWi-P9uIPqoqi0UH0qk/s900/DSCF2509.JPG" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="270" data-original-width="900" height="96" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjajWTh2Tz0qCr33_wMGFpZl8VnW_peg1dNw7C8Ueosn8jhmIWnuQyUJZK4BPiuQms3_5bd_TNGUIo9o_RxN1q8d9oWtChVyLdHxf0xsG7jgvA06duaMgteZvPhgGTZ1Zoi4k7GgLO5O9Jv1uaBrVQUhPBsuFvl8cWjO6M9SeYhEWi-P9uIPqoqi0UH0qk/s320/DSCF2509.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3WqhgY0Y5YYTmJb0fN_3jfkEmGryjHWHCFLdQYxZvdWsAAA47uGM3VCLyKAPQajadzSqRDax9zlnfnHz6D9JOf4qlvDdhNcGJp6cf_ovzmRF73fJh9_0c-MYwg8zQm0cqydpniss4hinhV3Epy__0JaZO1ab05gBgM5ctILiBut0aUL4NHqEWfiUIy1M/s900/DSCF2508.JPG" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="282" data-original-width="900" height="100" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg3WqhgY0Y5YYTmJb0fN_3jfkEmGryjHWHCFLdQYxZvdWsAAA47uGM3VCLyKAPQajadzSqRDax9zlnfnHz6D9JOf4qlvDdhNcGJp6cf_ovzmRF73fJh9_0c-MYwg8zQm0cqydpniss4hinhV3Epy__0JaZO1ab05gBgM5ctILiBut0aUL4NHqEWfiUIy1M/s320/DSCF2508.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBj_qigwf-Oqlr9wf42o-IE7M5m84nabhjA0F_QhVoLB77EjQ0ER7b274b_2x4lLQ4EFcwxKNryT2ODq_4vpgQd-QdkIV1VafIlZlLLJ4Fdu5IPGTTqGm-0L0757imYvZdcg71M398Uo4wF5GdaE372VtPcZD8bVbXekwzHiCIzHe2W6DF0kNZ74Iv-Xo/s900/DSCF2507.JPG" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="258" data-original-width="900" height="92" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhBj_qigwf-Oqlr9wf42o-IE7M5m84nabhjA0F_QhVoLB77EjQ0ER7b274b_2x4lLQ4EFcwxKNryT2ODq_4vpgQd-QdkIV1VafIlZlLLJ4Fdu5IPGTTqGm-0L0757imYvZdcg71M398Uo4wF5GdaE372VtPcZD8bVbXekwzHiCIzHe2W6DF0kNZ74Iv-Xo/s320/DSCF2507.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p>Final League Results - Well done to the top three pairs:</p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGC37EIp_inhXpeW2kBJjEWoNtMdhgIUaaTDQ0tx7ye_qwyIUHstLkxqGgV2ATf5hBveB7y-33ky9t9qapken2KOj6Cb64vpnmWjIkOTzHtx_Amq9uo9vn-vfecXGIbcBYcOk5c1SDnTIVWL9YcXupzUbgf3g4DksANKV1ZrNBtuiuGiAMQA1MhXN21jU/s960/Presentation1.jpg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="720" data-original-width="960" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjGC37EIp_inhXpeW2kBJjEWoNtMdhgIUaaTDQ0tx7ye_qwyIUHstLkxqGgV2ATf5hBveB7y-33ky9t9qapken2KOj6Cb64vpnmWjIkOTzHtx_Amq9uo9vn-vfecXGIbcBYcOk5c1SDnTIVWL9YcXupzUbgf3g4DksANKV1ZrNBtuiuGiAMQA1MhXN21jU/s320/Presentation1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p>Silverfox Match Anglinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14766712605215137930noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3981431156970664881.post-64634533448167097172024-03-08T12:13:00.000+00:002024-03-08T12:13:14.134+00:00Thursday 07/03/2024 - Windmill Cost Cutter 500 - Match Lake<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQeBn0C9VxCUeKbZHBd8Qitgn_Vp88ZKsRzPEuAH1tNZj6S3mCsRZbnIwJ1eY_xU54BMNdnodsCMy7V1BoZuT5HKy7nxeaw9wWQveeLKXqNaw2F2KZac9GWM3zveOaEoGKVZybK6hyphenhyphenN6q0ZvNP1K0CUkjevCZo8Gz4d9VRzFdjeMYjR1YcTNglaXidcr8/s900/FB_IMG_1639120244717.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="463" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgQeBn0C9VxCUeKbZHBd8Qitgn_Vp88ZKsRzPEuAH1tNZj6S3mCsRZbnIwJ1eY_xU54BMNdnodsCMy7V1BoZuT5HKy7nxeaw9wWQveeLKXqNaw2F2KZac9GWM3zveOaEoGKVZybK6hyphenhyphenN6q0ZvNP1K0CUkjevCZo8Gz4d9VRzFdjeMYjR1YcTNglaXidcr8/w103-h200/FB_IMG_1639120244717.jpg" width="103" /></a></div>Been a long time since I've fished Windmill. Good turn out of 21, more the merrier I say. Rumour has it the access road will soon be repaired.<p></p><p>Looking forward to today as it was to be dry. Most fisheries are suffering from muddy banks as it is here. Plus the enticement of a curry and draft Cobra on the way home with Geoff and Glenn.</p><p>I was told the silvers were down on pegs 10 and 11 so hoping for one of those. Into the draw bag and found red milk bottle top 22 in my hand. No emotion, yet! For company on peg 21 Geoff, so good company.</p><p>Set up the waggler, short Ronnie rig and a 4x16 to fish the peg is deep found 5 foot at top set - no rolling out the barrels day.</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh94jUnXTEWrQeHN0XZr4xP1RwC6K52oEbanKjK1lE_o7CYm5vWvRpaabGzKFQCLbZndIWaIGQdCJCv_LeaEnt8J-ELjz4POxV0jwHTy1D4cDvUdzxJijr1B04tkrF9d2N_MYO4Jt-NBpFCWtXN-HGaHv9hToX1CyUffQ_ZCUQlTO1F-krs18hn0CY74mI/s900/Photo%20from%20silverfoxangling%20(5).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="621" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh94jUnXTEWrQeHN0XZr4xP1RwC6K52oEbanKjK1lE_o7CYm5vWvRpaabGzKFQCLbZndIWaIGQdCJCv_LeaEnt8J-ELjz4POxV0jwHTy1D4cDvUdzxJijr1B04tkrF9d2N_MYO4Jt-NBpFCWtXN-HGaHv9hToX1CyUffQ_ZCUQlTO1F-krs18hn0CY74mI/w138-h200/Photo%20from%20silverfoxangling%20(5).jpg" width="138" /></a></div>The up shot was didn't have a single bite on the silver rigs. The tow against the wind was horrendous, tried the waggler which went with the wind presentation didn't feel right. Foul hooked a small Carp which came off. With no one on my bank having caught and pegs 24 and 25 catching Carp set up the feeder rod. The rod and reel are Diawa's which was won 20 years ago and been out 4 times without really catching. I put in a very soft tip as hoping for some Skimmers. Set up a small maggot feeder. I don't clip the waggler or the feeder so took a few casts to get the distance right, probably to the amusement of Geoff who's proficient on the feeder. With double LR's and one Pinkie on the hook I was getting liners. Knew it was due the steep slope I was fishing against with the fish coming up behind the hook. Luckily the soft tip came in good use as I could inch the feeder down the slope until finding the hook bait over the feed. Had a near 14 lb <div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhR1rv2v698NlJVDmZpxLeLMQ-xXTu_9f1QX2X8uPDmX_RNfWCzwN_2DlmOiu7fxOK8Th-DzZJQ7DX7lQb-jwQoV25Y-XM71zj2Mjz4sUVpofA7NTHVN0UTkNdeIuaUzIfPZSeANOXn8DkpS1x7BYwBAcCx00D0yOQlnKE1NpBS23XcLWY4hLVHEAsLyu4/s900/Photo%20from%20silverfoxangling.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="537" data-original-width="900" height="119" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhR1rv2v698NlJVDmZpxLeLMQ-xXTu_9f1QX2X8uPDmX_RNfWCzwN_2DlmOiu7fxOK8Th-DzZJQ7DX7lQb-jwQoV25Y-XM71zj2Mjz4sUVpofA7NTHVN0UTkNdeIuaUzIfPZSeANOXn8DkpS1x7BYwBAcCx00D0yOQlnKE1NpBS23XcLWY4hLVHEAsLyu4/w200-h119/Photo%20from%20silverfoxangling.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>Common followed quickly by another double after the third things slowed up but the liners did not, so switched to half a dendrobaena on the hook this worked better but still had to inch down from where I was casting and learnt where to best hold up. Had three more Carp but not as big as the first three. No sign of a silver.<p></p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguMGswqqBMB8dx3JIf1HRwHFA0mwETDaV9GOAWIQBTYAfMvabksBlfrKLuJ8xemiI2_-vETJB08FYo8LPG36BwNLsjvTtByQernM46k5q7ckpEBjL0hJ_FeXhXs3KkaZ79gT-vR9v5qG0-mjo5FTyVne34Tf7Zz_35wJnqiF0sia6I7nasV0GbRyEVkwQ/s900/Photo%20from%20silverfoxangling%20(2).jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="800" data-original-width="900" height="178" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEguMGswqqBMB8dx3JIf1HRwHFA0mwETDaV9GOAWIQBTYAfMvabksBlfrKLuJ8xemiI2_-vETJB08FYo8LPG36BwNLsjvTtByQernM46k5q7ckpEBjL0hJ_FeXhXs3KkaZ79gT-vR9v5qG0-mjo5FTyVne34Tf7Zz_35wJnqiF0sia6I7nasV0GbRyEVkwQ/w200-h178/Photo%20from%20silverfoxangling%20(2).jpg" width="200" /></a></div>The six Carp weighed 48 lb for 6th overall and a section win. Got some stick for fishing the feeder with Geoff taking pictures as proof. I think it was the liners that kept my interest. I Rest the rod on my keep net, don't think I will be getting the feeder arm out anytime soon though.<p></p><p>The match was won by John Williams (<i>pictured above</i>) with 75 lb 7 oz from peg 25. John fished at 10 metres using his favourite part soaked 4 mm Skrettings pellet fished over 4's. Well done mate. I use to use this method - my semi hard's, must try it again sometime. In to the draw boot taking the nearest disc put me on peg 10. With pegs 1 and 2 being the form pegs the only way to coin was to target the silvers. However, peg 10 is the home of a few F1's which isn't conducive for the silvers.</p><p>Set up a 6" waggler in the attempt to be able to cast around to avoid the F1's. The long Ronnie rig and a 4x12 Winter to fish top set plus two and four barrels.</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8sUrqG2FslUDjXt26zvQWRso0OSvEMw0Y_eJHfNFRP46SX-5OvTOQpgM7BJXtpu6l7woJ5GFct9_HAocjWJQEwf4DpVvQNwuIZgLQi_sHfdPAuwURFM9z6OKcL4KT4SgxfB4VfVHCbOU_2HnX-dk_4sIC97-xGcfErWSsEVpwU5MCBWznmEkLBmKYNt4/s900/IMG_20240303_161510.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="381" data-original-width="900" height="84" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj8sUrqG2FslUDjXt26zvQWRso0OSvEMw0Y_eJHfNFRP46SX-5OvTOQpgM7BJXtpu6l7woJ5GFct9_HAocjWJQEwf4DpVvQNwuIZgLQi_sHfdPAuwURFM9z6OKcL4KT4SgxfB4VfVHCbOU_2HnX-dk_4sIC97-xGcfErWSsEVpwU5MCBWznmEkLBmKYNt4/w200-h84/IMG_20240303_161510.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>Fed the Ronnie line with GB and Pinkie similarly the two barrel line and pulted a few LR's over the far bank. Started on double Pinkie at two barrels and had a reasonable start catching two small Skimmers and Ronnie's. That until the F1's rolled up, had a couple and left the line alone until they had munched the feed. Had a go on the Ronnie rig adding very small Ronnie's, think it was too bright for them in the shallower water. Soon had my hands on the waggler with single LR and had a few more better Ronnie's for yet again catching two more F1's. Stopped the feeding the waggler for a while. Decided to fish down to peg 9 at four barrels over some chopped worm imbedded in wetted micro and GB with the hope of catching some quick Skimmers. Had two small one's on a small piece of work before the F1's arrived in numbers catching 6 in 6 put-in's - certainly liked the worm. The upshot was I kept rotating between the Ronnie and waggler and short line until the F1's arrived. The only rig not to catch an F1's was the Ronnie rig which I spent the last half hour on adding tiny fish.<p></p><p>My 12 or so F1's weighed 17 lb 12 oz and the silvers 6 lb 13 oz being pipped by Steve Rogers on peg 11 who seemed to avoid the F1's probably because had more open water. Surprised my self coming 4th on the pool. Thoroughly enjoyed today with the weather contributing.</p><p>The match and our pool was won by Ricky Mills <i>(pictured with some of his catch</i>) with 91 lb 13 oz from peg 1. Once again meat fished short came up trumps for all those that fished it. Well dome matey.</p><p>Taylor's pool was won by matey Glenn Bailey (<i>pictured above with the other framers except Johnny Clarke who only stopped drinking at 8 am this morning - light weight!</i>) with 53 lb 5 oz from peg 22. Glenn again fished meat at 14 and 16 metres.</p><p>Back to the New Inn for a pint and a right laugh - very enjoyable.</p><p><b>Weigh Sheets.</b></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi63XHB53INEgIAu824mi9g2ahzvliMcvNq1tIrv_kkifrk0F5AAGBijM6pd7aCyJPlPGB2KAzpEPLTP0P5M1Bn72DKT6lNP0PrQUOvF3DEKgi26vVsLM75Cghojm8TTxIzR5lODrcMXv2qCBRJ0oonJlogv4X0nRYCs1AE6BQzj9tB5TS9f5Fp-e0wdqA/s900/IMG_20240303_161610.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; Not to worry he's at home giving his instructions. Chris Ollis took up the reins. A good job he did too, with us drawing on the way in so we could go straight the the appropriate car park.</div><div><br /></div><div>A few cry off's so down to 18 which is a good number for the venue.</div><div><br /></div><div>Drew corner peg 1 which I was slightly apprehensive about as it's a very good Carp peg. For company on 2 was Shay Gillman. Had to walk to my peg from Glenn's van and was shocked at the state my peg - pictured. Shay had to help push the trolley. However, once set up it was OK, but dare not let any tackled near the mud. Anyway the gear was absolutely mired in mud.</div><div><br /></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjk7eAv0rekCPSV5v-U9QCEdT94Wkd1yW8cQdfZ7r5ZX9Gks0OUP3KRCoRrQAKclB0WSYjnPmnWlwl519zOaIyaQHjeHpE5rp9PlABSV9GiuFXEQhyUH1_DfMMzHw0ACchvAL7veTgGV5Qpx9hIVrLkgbNzk9uJT6DfSUe00IbAiMcfX2C5vdNpX-yTB0M/s900/DSCF2349.JPG" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="565" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjk7eAv0rekCPSV5v-U9QCEdT94Wkd1yW8cQdfZ7r5ZX9Gks0OUP3KRCoRrQAKclB0WSYjnPmnWlwl519zOaIyaQHjeHpE5rp9PlABSV9GiuFXEQhyUH1_DfMMzHw0ACchvAL7veTgGV5Qpx9hIVrLkgbNzk9uJT6DfSUe00IbAiMcfX2C5vdNpX-yTB0M/w126-h200/DSCF2349.JPG" width="126" /></a></div>Set up three rigs two 4x14 Winter's black and red tip's for two different lines at top set plus four barrels plus the long Ronnie rig which doubted would work. Plumbed around to find the bottom all over the place with different depths. Think it might be effects of feeding Carp.</div><div><br /></div><div>Fed all three lines, started on the Ronnie and as expected accounted for only a few small Perch - ditched. Out long and had a few Ronnie's before it went quiet subsequently getting liners from Carp. Hooked one which went on the pull for break. Feeding anything was causing disruption from Carp especially on one line so decided once a line died opened a new one which necessitated a lot of replumbing. Another match in the rain. At least think I have mastered the application of the brolly.<div><br /><div>Manage to get a spare place on the clubs winter league.<br /><p></p><p>Into the draw bag ably held by Steve "Enigma" Dawson and pulls peg 17. Like I have said before don't know the venue well but told it was a feeder peg. Must admit it looked good for Chub over to the island. However, it would be the waggler for that. Also set up the long Ronnie rig and a 4x14 to fish top set plus three barrels.</p><p>Fed the Ronnie rig with a small nub of GB laced with DR's and the long line a big pot of the same fed loose and pulted a few LR's out towards the island, it was obvious the wind wouldn't be my friend on the waggler. Started on the Ronnie rig - no bites. Out on the long line loads of bites form small Ronnie's which wasn't quick enough to get a weight, so back on the Ronnie rig and suddenly loads of bites from small fish at least they weren't coming off. Did hook a decent fish which was either a F1 or a Perch which came off - which might have been fouled. It was apparent that the GB was attracting the small Ronnie's which were getting to the hook bait first. So reasonable excuse to pick up the waggler with the hope of some Chub. Alas no Chub but started to get some better Ronnie's to 4 oz. Spent the rest on the match on this with Single LR on the hook. I really enjoy waggler fishing as I did today trying to pre-empt the wind direction and speed - also learnt how to fish the waggler over head with the brolly up which means getting the height of the brolly just right.</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQudx-AGXs-d7drza81z-FV49ClNVcsLYCYI5UPoL-cFS1qPnIh_Z1pQkMGc2YMX46BSjZWD1tTqdmdoY-D_8uZPNDZ16JPwC-UG2okvCsGq6NXhg-tdlWEGvnaw3MePv22MjgAZ4TxWe0NIHF5ig2EoF-MwPhaKxR9bFVtKBn_Qhv9eSzWNa12BTELwk/s900/DSCF2494.JPG" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="497" data-original-width="900" height="111" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjQudx-AGXs-d7drza81z-FV49ClNVcsLYCYI5UPoL-cFS1qPnIh_Z1pQkMGc2YMX46BSjZWD1tTqdmdoY-D_8uZPNDZ16JPwC-UG2okvCsGq6NXhg-tdlWEGvnaw3MePv22MjgAZ4TxWe0NIHF5ig2EoF-MwPhaKxR9bFVtKBn_Qhv9eSzWNa12BTELwk/w200-h111/DSCF2494.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>My net of silvers weighed 10 lb 3 oz for 2nd pick up with Enigma piping me in the silvers by 2 oz. Good peg if you can fish 14.5 metres. The pool definitively designed with the larger angler in mind! As I was out of the league placings decided to fish for silvers whatever peg. However, peg 22 is the deepest peg on the pool, and due to the cold rain being on the bottom in the deepest areas expected the silver fish to be more likely to be in the shallow water.</div><div><br /></div><div>For company on peg 23 was Ricky Mills of the Mills Scaffold fame.</div><div><br /></div><div>Plumbed up finding the water shelves off steeply from bank to top set to 7 foot. It was going to be difficult to find shallow water so set up the waggler to get to 17 metres, the short Ronnie rig, a 4x14 Winter to fish top set and 4x16 to fish at full depth about another 6 inches at various lengths.</div><div><br /></div><div>Fed small amount of GB laced with DR's on a line close in to the right down wind and the top set line. Started on the latter really strange fishing that deep so close in, can see every indication. Had a decent start catching small Ronnie's and pesky small Perch. It slowed up and the culprit an F1 was soon in the net. F1's are a nuisance if they come are over your feed, find it's a question of leaving the line a while before refeeding. Onto the Ronnie rig and another good start adding five 3 oz Tench and more small silvers. However, couldn't fish as close in as I would like because of a snag. Caught two more F1's before trying the top set line again which was slow adding a couple of small Skimmers. Changed the Ronnie rig to the left which was better stayed there until cup of tea time so having previously fed the waggler line had a cast on it and had one bite which was missed the single LR was sucked right out!! Tried again but the Ducks were being a nuisance, only had to pick up the catty and they were there waiting. I tried the full depth rig at two barrels for nothing, so spent the rest of the match on the Ronnie rig.</div><div><br /></div><div>The 3 F1's weighed 4 lb and my silvers 10 lb 12 oz for the silvers win. Pleased with that off this peg. Might have given the waggler longer as sure there were Skimmers out there. I did leave 2 Ronnie's in my keep net so lost 2 oz.</div><div><br /></div><div>Our pool was won by Ricky (<i>pictured with his catch of Carp</i>) with 55 lb 1 oz from peg 23. Ricky had a few long over to the island on hard pellet, a few down the middle on meat and later long down his edge again with meat catching some of the better Carp.</div><div><br /></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJ2XNv2GJnq0nuR8d5XfCLwcBWNgIgvsoj5h8fgNOhFGymQxqISjfCWepZ5JCFUwlH2e9wOzCpjGYiuidjzJp-zbcaslzAH_t69IloQiuiru6QCblk6zSl6ZUMYIawZrlQPxwqC52Blpq7ep9eRuGVIJ5dDubOhnvViyO0PdgUpD413RtEGDguMW3OCr4/s900/DSCF2487.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="303" data-original-width="900" height="108" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJ2XNv2GJnq0nuR8d5XfCLwcBWNgIgvsoj5h8fgNOhFGymQxqISjfCWepZ5JCFUwlH2e9wOzCpjGYiuidjzJp-zbcaslzAH_t69IloQiuiru6QCblk6zSl6ZUMYIawZrlQPxwqC52Blpq7ep9eRuGVIJ5dDubOhnvViyO0PdgUpD413RtEGDguMW3OCr4/s320/DSCF2487.JPG" width="320" /></a></div>An amazing 104 lb 3 oz came off Taylors peg 8 caught by inform Bela Bakos. The heat didn't come from being trapped in by CO2 but directly from the Sun which appears to me to be getting hotter.<p></p><p>With the sad news that the Hunstrete complex is closed due to unconfirmed issues. It's felt that the complex is continually having issue with it closing most years for some reason or other. Subsequently, we have decided to find other venues. So today we fished Farleigh Woods which was arranged by Chris Ollis who got us an advantageous peg fee. Well done matey.</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjT7tki9iPJkr3aC8QatPx1u9F4SNSZUtB_pBTA9_WHV5h14Z0DYa7m_850bn_OSiToFGwNY1e6lfn7ctvlsKFMSajRsV6aBXRQDlGvgxTOd2XarjsHVb28wOZE7hKQ9VcUL4kTElXVK6gqv6KWDZuFldipGFwpwGuAjtYZCOcxmsNRxAexKKhaip-SjtE/s900/DSCF2480.JPG" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="642" data-original-width="900" height="143" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjT7tki9iPJkr3aC8QatPx1u9F4SNSZUtB_pBTA9_WHV5h14Z0DYa7m_850bn_OSiToFGwNY1e6lfn7ctvlsKFMSajRsV6aBXRQDlGvgxTOd2XarjsHVb28wOZE7hKQ9VcUL4kTElXVK6gqv6KWDZuFldipGFwpwGuAjtYZCOcxmsNRxAexKKhaip-SjtE/w200-h143/DSCF2480.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>Nice to Gary Etheridge out standing in for Tony Rixon.<p></p><p>Pulled peg 18 which happened to be the peg Chris and I were chatting on before the draw and I did say I wouldn't mind it today - funny how these things turnout. However, like most of the pegs near any car parking were extremely muddy - not for tackle tarts.</p><p>Chris said there were lots of small fish -mainly Ronnie's and Skimmers since I last fished it. So set up the long Ronnie rig, 4 metre whip and two 4x12 winter's - one black tip, the other yellow so to combat the every changing light in 4 1/2 foot of water. The upshot was me wasting too much time trying to catch to hand. Just couldn't get the fish to come any shorter than top set plus 3 barrels, which was to be a pain. Also I could only catch on one line long on the yellow tip. Caught Ronnie's 1/2 to 2oz steady on this line with single Pinkie over GB laced with Pinkie. The last 30 minutes had three bonus fish - 8 oz Perch, 1 lb Hybrid and 1 lb Skimmer. Was this the time of day or because I changed my feeding - who knows?</p><p>Weighed 8 lb 7 oz for section win and 4th overall. Glenn was second in section so double Bubble van.</p><p>The Crayfish catch went to Hughie Evans, one monster.</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkA27mvxsDC5aAI4gnq3NOKRC0RtUZfZK2CFupy_QEfCBB15wLabsl3NgEAcpKpC7cjNze2RBDEYMtPJWgDF3_m_lkRQqIhX6FU-u1tBcBlgKUG0NzCvVirK65UnUteRezo_op-lsiNDbP6kAgfzCrofqSjoR92QKLJlC2UGMhpE1VF_Xd1hYJuId3NvQ/s900/received_404289161984357.jpeg" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="436" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhkA27mvxsDC5aAI4gnq3NOKRC0RtUZfZK2CFupy_QEfCBB15wLabsl3NgEAcpKpC7cjNze2RBDEYMtPJWgDF3_m_lkRQqIhX6FU-u1tBcBlgKUG0NzCvVirK65UnUteRezo_op-lsiNDbP6kAgfzCrofqSjoR92QKLJlC2UGMhpE1VF_Xd1hYJuId3NvQ/w97-h200/received_404289161984357.jpeg" width="97" /></a></div>The match was won by Kev Winstone (<i>pictured enjoying a pint with Glenn)</i> with 17 lb 6 oz from fancied peg 2. Kev caught some decent Skimmers fishing two lines at 14.5 metres with red maggot hook bait over GB with particles and lose feeding caster over the top. Well done matey.<p></p><p>Runner ups were Barny and Haydn both with 10 lb 7 oz from pegs 13 and 22. Hayden pictured with his net of Skimmers caught at 11 metres.</p><p>We stopped in the Stag and Hounds for a pint. However, we both got are wishes with Geoff on 25 and me on peg 8! My inbuilt compass unusually let me down as the wind was a SWW and blasting into my corner. Because of this it was going to be uncomfortable but expected some fish to be there, especially as shotting up I foul hooked a fish - hate this, one that won't be in the keepnet.<p></p><p>The island opposite was giving some shelter around peg 7, so set up the waggler which I discovered was practically unusable mainly due to the veering gusts, not being able to see where the loose feed was going and trying to fish out Ricky's top set!</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiWh7X1ddWo6U8L9KMdV4QbwgxSNCGX1aydhcljEl-KkY_XeIcQHFNzGOHzhdZz-dHKBuuszEEJbmLJPHMjw2XsXm-wzs6xi7JdvWwykVHyK24KEWgH0sOByObb6mN3WKU6HHsxTR7r0cPT3kNWEJS6R4H-e_RWfm2lXehg8fp7fL6NjqUwBJu-1pe0nc/s900/DSCF2470.JPG" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="651" data-original-width="900" height="144" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgiWh7X1ddWo6U8L9KMdV4QbwgxSNCGX1aydhcljEl-KkY_XeIcQHFNzGOHzhdZz-dHKBuuszEEJbmLJPHMjw2XsXm-wzs6xi7JdvWwykVHyK24KEWgH0sOByObb6mN3WKU6HHsxTR7r0cPT3kNWEJS6R4H-e_RWfm2lXehg8fp7fL6NjqUwBJu-1pe0nc/w200-h144/DSCF2470.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>Spent the match on either the short Ronnie rig and a 4x14 in 4 foot of water heavier than I would normally choose but necessary due to the conditions at top set plus one barrel. The presentation for both was awful but second put in had a 7 lb Ghost Carp on maggot over GB, going to have a good day then - not. I struggled the rest of the day catching a few Silvers, adding some Crucians and F1's. It wasn't one of my better matches. The peg isn't really conducive for a Ronnie rig as very shallow in close.<p></p><p>Silvers weighed 5 lb 14 oz which was reasonable for the conditions and the Carp 13 lb 14 oz for a 7 point total of 19 lb 12 oz (weigh sheet wrong) which was half the weight I had last time!</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-yRYBSA3GOYejDTn2E8C9c9DglOnZht36BZaCriwgc8YrP6eOthnLn7QsTyTTWI6k3Jd6Tb-zx-vfVeNeqtH0voVC8fiDnzI3XqdDbdL6Dm7I0gMIhjhlVlh_ddu3-phmkfDiR31ZFZosq4fQ5pefNr9zKkF3kY1rYY4bG3P2e4UZElNzEpzzr9YPSt8/s900/DSCF2467.JPG" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="612" data-original-width="900" height="136" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi-yRYBSA3GOYejDTn2E8C9c9DglOnZht36BZaCriwgc8YrP6eOthnLn7QsTyTTWI6k3Jd6Tb-zx-vfVeNeqtH0voVC8fiDnzI3XqdDbdL6Dm7I0gMIhjhlVlh_ddu3-phmkfDiR31ZFZosq4fQ5pefNr9zKkF3kY1rYY4bG3P2e4UZElNzEpzzr9YPSt8/w200-h136/DSCF2467.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>Our lake was won by Ricky Mills (<i>pictured with Taylor's Pool winner</i>) with 75 lb 7 oz from peg 6. Ricky caught at top set plus two fishing meat over loose fed meat, feeding about 1/2 tin. Well done Matey.<p></p><p>Bela Bakos won Taylor's with the highest weight from it so far this year with 44 lb 14 oz from inform peg 14. Bela caught at 13 metres onto the bar with maggot, switching to the deeper water at 11.5 metres with worm over chopped worm and sloppy GB. For company had Nigel the Bailiff and Chris Rolfe round the corner.</p><p>Won't bother to mention my rigs set up as never had a bite on the pole short, medium or long! So after 2.5 hours was blanking. So went out to 25 metres on the waggler in 7 footish of water feeding LR's with single on the hook and after 30 minutes had my first bite which was struck at prematurely in my haste to not blank. At least the bite gained some enthusiasm. Could not believe I couldn't catch on the pole so kept trying it on and off. The upshot had 4 small Skimmers and one Ronnie all on the waggler. Must admit the fish to save the blank brought back that feeling we can't bottle.</p><p>Weighed 3 lb 8 oz for last but one in the section. Luckily my partner Phil who was also in my section did the business coming second with 4 lb 4 oz.</p><p>The match was won by Tony Rixon (p<i>ictured with hands approaching his sleeping position</i>) with a remarkable weight of 19 lb 9 oz from peg 45. Tony caught long with maggot over GB with minimum add caster and dead Pinkie. Well done Matey nice to watch.</p><p>BAA are to net the Pool for stock assessment. Don't bother, just look at the weigh sheets. Pairs averaging 20 lb after 6 weigh in's!! </p><p><b>Weigh Sheet:</b></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNgtQx5zXTCjrenQ6-CsPCOkRqKMS7PJ-vPrA343rKsGc155iYqXRq7xYQwGphj33Ci9eXNKM-8NBxCUpVGpxNGx_tKIRrVu-R-_SZEyE_HnnVvCZnbemfJ8UBnbhmBR5aEEmIE2IBuVSwRb8nycqgr4YPAYpDrcSYdI0s4Jg7vKIVGSfcmL0qZ2vAm80/s900/DSCF2463.JPG" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="506" data-original-width="900" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjNgtQx5zXTCjrenQ6-CsPCOkRqKMS7PJ-vPrA343rKsGc155iYqXRq7xYQwGphj33Ci9eXNKM-8NBxCUpVGpxNGx_tKIRrVu-R-_SZEyE_HnnVvCZnbemfJ8UBnbhmBR5aEEmIE2IBuVSwRb8nycqgr4YPAYpDrcSYdI0s4Jg7vKIVGSfcmL0qZ2vAm80/s320/DSCF2463.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjI0Fgq_iMplIv087qZjsxglDwYILeJj9Iv3O_SFnXYrdPvDESNQWnmuRrs-38JQFSNeOvkG3OPUl0FYU5cTaGBKxoswh2wxJ99qvB4aduw3Rd9f5Grf-UTV-HN3_8gHKwN-RkR3PauWDz4hHxSGPNdieWOIfvWmVjUUKkXKQNYfd9e8pXK2NWyL6H_fcE/s900/DSCF2462.JPG" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="543" data-original-width="900" height="193" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjI0Fgq_iMplIv087qZjsxglDwYILeJj9Iv3O_SFnXYrdPvDESNQWnmuRrs-38JQFSNeOvkG3OPUl0FYU5cTaGBKxoswh2wxJ99qvB4aduw3Rd9f5Grf-UTV-HN3_8gHKwN-RkR3PauWDz4hHxSGPNdieWOIfvWmVjUUKkXKQNYfd9e8pXK2NWyL6H_fcE/s320/DSCF2462.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><b>Results of the pairs to date:</b></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVZcCW8QbUpZVeWpqbUCqOo78ooHOhIad__Zgl-YRQyLr0OCwO7l1bOgBd51G14P6OuP10rC4VKFxr394kSuwMVIAHEFTb6E4V4Kj4oTujtCPW-7q9Eunxru9iAaRCcc2MhJINKxJb0KgJL864VOu2OeF5DODi9XKDbPgZ-1uziFb3uQX7x1tqxwCtx2w/s960/Presentation1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="720" data-original-width="960" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhVZcCW8QbUpZVeWpqbUCqOo78ooHOhIad__Zgl-YRQyLr0OCwO7l1bOgBd51G14P6OuP10rC4VKFxr394kSuwMVIAHEFTb6E4V4Kj4oTujtCPW-7q9Eunxru9iAaRCcc2MhJINKxJb0KgJL864VOu2OeF5DODi9XKDbPgZ-1uziFb3uQX7x1tqxwCtx2w/s320/Presentation1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p>Silverfox Match Anglinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14766712605215137930noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3981431156970664881.post-7951642444596887602024-01-26T13:56:00.001+00:002024-01-26T13:56:19.734+00:00Thursday 25/01/2024 - Bathampton AA - Over 55's - Silver Pairs - Round 2 - Withy Pool<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiULz78WXgAkFTmrU_d2-9hhTMbJP4HmfL0kLJZ9EgIr1jv7-urEbUbHNDVKy5KG33wbmIuatBbzx5mwkqWbLrlmrK7qzoystHsGlOSG8WRiNtLCuGj9R6dJTXocb06EExMezdatMOAX2tm8SK9hVCbHoiBExFmJ0rBO7311FRPhi9pqKGVWWk7WLCB-2Y/s900/DSCF2457.JPG" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="673" data-original-width="900" height="149" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiULz78WXgAkFTmrU_d2-9hhTMbJP4HmfL0kLJZ9EgIr1jv7-urEbUbHNDVKy5KG33wbmIuatBbzx5mwkqWbLrlmrK7qzoystHsGlOSG8WRiNtLCuGj9R6dJTXocb06EExMezdatMOAX2tm8SK9hVCbHoiBExFmJ0rBO7311FRPhi9pqKGVWWk7WLCB-2Y/w200-h149/DSCF2457.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>Weather set reasonable. All prepared for a hard day's fishing on this Pool today.<p></p><p>Pulled peg 57 - what not behind the island? That said the light is awful along this bank, especially if its sunny with wind - it was to be a bit of both! For company had matey Glenn Bailey on peg 56. Peg 57 is in a leg of the Pool.</p><p>Due to visibility decided on setting up a 4 x14 winter yellow tip and 4 x16 black tip to fish two lines which was to be switched according to the light conditions. Had to set up the black tip rig during the match as late setting up. With Perch probably going to make up a lot of the weights set up the red tip short Ronnie rig.</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPzdWQ2EiKmn7wf1ROnquUbPUsRh4q8mOPxhyphenhyphenbygu8mwYz9jhbousKiYQpStLcTUVleGMyCCnlsEEmPIrJ1qgcmHoTi-4hphTZrVtys_T6BgIY0Z-ZsHEeDEt41F8mZRYWLu3RnxBA3UFAOL_4XhjUGKHnEgq23RFV6B3QNpc6ISf3LVQeQFeis8xxNU4/s900/DSCF2459.JPG" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="462" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPzdWQ2EiKmn7wf1ROnquUbPUsRh4q8mOPxhyphenhyphenbygu8mwYz9jhbousKiYQpStLcTUVleGMyCCnlsEEmPIrJ1qgcmHoTi-4hphTZrVtys_T6BgIY0Z-ZsHEeDEt41F8mZRYWLu3RnxBA3UFAOL_4XhjUGKHnEgq23RFV6B3QNpc6ISf3LVQeQFeis8xxNU4/w102-h200/DSCF2459.JPG" width="102" /></a></div>Fished all the rigs over GB and Pinkie with the Ronnie rig accounting for 25 small Perch and the two other rigs fished at 4 barrels accounted for another 25 approximately, again mostly small Perch plus five small Roach. No Skimmers or quality fish at all!<p></p><p>My 50 fished weighed in at 3 lb 11 oz for 3 points. Just piping Glenn who had a decent Perch first put in! My partner - "Fuzzy" struggled off a poor peg. Going to suggest he stop's giving away pickled eggs.</p><p>The match was won by Paul Barnfield (<i>pictured</i>) from peg 62 with 12 lb 14 oz. Paul initially caught Skimmers on the Feeder, switching to the waggler for some Roach and finally doing well on the pole at 13 metres using GB and Maggot. Well done matey.</p><p>Shay Gillman was runner-up with the only other weight of note - 10 lb 13 oz of mostly Roach from peg 42.</p><p>Unlucky Andy Gard lost the number 5 from his Sensas pole. He did strip down to his kecks in preparation to go in, but soon relised it wasn't worth it in freezing cold water. Anyone that's got a spare 5 at a reasonable price please contact Andy.</p><p>It looks like the fished have shoaled up, telling us something - Predators?</p><p>Back to the Compton with the usual suspects, for a right laugh, makes the day.</p><p><b>Weigh Sheets:</b></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgz_DBR9WlNq9DZRUx-oS4xpUapIWYoTUXFt-7ZCQLVXItv1r7FDnVaUBWC5HvxTW3TQ2nMOZrzI1oYGmmDrixziwSUtVweUIEFh_tk4Sxaq8fgYGU4oCoKi7pDofxeLmb8P1u9pIReVI8rMiNSYTlSE3rfl8PzNYEDgt-f0PmgBH3mbFd2xQY8nx-OQMI/s900/DSCF2461.JPG" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="569" data-original-width="900" height="202" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgz_DBR9WlNq9DZRUx-oS4xpUapIWYoTUXFt-7ZCQLVXItv1r7FDnVaUBWC5HvxTW3TQ2nMOZrzI1oYGmmDrixziwSUtVweUIEFh_tk4Sxaq8fgYGU4oCoKi7pDofxeLmb8P1u9pIReVI8rMiNSYTlSE3rfl8PzNYEDgt-f0PmgBH3mbFd2xQY8nx-OQMI/s320/DSCF2461.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrIV3P9kASKKes1WAYo8mzsxUWBNOKtDVGKe9ZHJvZRglAn00s688buTg5d4iHsroWBlq2vgYVaD5jqD4e9tSBsUu5WA-1ZlvjU50uFRm0Ww-0w6_mhoVLJfkRgPic0oWcM5u3ZJtTdTUHvPsAZXGQAiLbVp5RyETSVy_Nap4xJ0S3dFDRgxqXtepva-o/s900/DSCF2460.JPG" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="567" data-original-width="900" height="202" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhrIV3P9kASKKes1WAYo8mzsxUWBNOKtDVGKe9ZHJvZRglAn00s688buTg5d4iHsroWBlq2vgYVaD5jqD4e9tSBsUu5WA-1ZlvjU50uFRm0Ww-0w6_mhoVLJfkRgPic0oWcM5u3ZJtTdTUHvPsAZXGQAiLbVp5RyETSVy_Nap4xJ0S3dFDRgxqXtepva-o/s320/DSCF2460.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><b>Results of pairs:</b></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLUKjm5YASw-p-INszPaXYvGoWJugT5CbaPb0FFHcHJLoVeUDtZsrTgXa97V200kpXkyOvcmdo4lBPthYd8fCdaOr87A2NUbT7pil7rzTHcf7tZ7_7kbxFcAq4SRVB6dLsoSIK7J0lqTotwuqZTqNXT10qg9HP8ta2F8Gqvqwg7XOS2FvoVR76JMv4xrE/s960/Presentation1.jpg" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="720" data-original-width="960" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLUKjm5YASw-p-INszPaXYvGoWJugT5CbaPb0FFHcHJLoVeUDtZsrTgXa97V200kpXkyOvcmdo4lBPthYd8fCdaOr87A2NUbT7pil7rzTHcf7tZ7_7kbxFcAq4SRVB6dLsoSIK7J0lqTotwuqZTqNXT10qg9HP8ta2F8Gqvqwg7XOS2FvoVR76JMv4xrE/s320/Presentation1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p>Silverfox Match Anglinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14766712605215137930noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3981431156970664881.post-51023889507162488012024-01-22T11:43:00.003+00:002024-01-22T13:58:48.927+00:00Sunday - 21/01/2021 - Westerleigh Winter League - Round 4 - Shipp's Canal and Taylors Pool<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbPYcusJbxMrGcdy988PZzZw8KVJB7tmIwU7ZzTZw8evA-bmZzCrcRJNrDBreZEjqIENEbOh7SHyrXmMhRDzdxayQYRw4SRxzliLP09P8HRz7RPZdyseXVLa76RuqK1dD37Fx4d5vp0w7OhR-xH3cXNvqbdt7ruPnOSqLaofxE4dvHtgKht1pd8StSjPo/s900/DSCF2446.JPG" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="864" data-original-width="900" height="192" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhbPYcusJbxMrGcdy988PZzZw8KVJB7tmIwU7ZzTZw8evA-bmZzCrcRJNrDBreZEjqIENEbOh7SHyrXmMhRDzdxayQYRw4SRxzliLP09P8HRz7RPZdyseXVLa76RuqK1dD37Fx4d5vp0w7OhR-xH3cXNvqbdt7ruPnOSqLaofxE4dvHtgKht1pd8StSjPo/w200-h192/DSCF2446.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>Travelled with Glenn. Weather had turn very mild but expecting gales and rain later. Both Pools still had some ice - thicker in some areas than others, but breakable.<p></p><p>My turn on Taylor's had prepared myself for drawing in the punishment pegs again - 15,16,17. Couldn't believe to see peg 26 staring back at me - didn't know there was a peg 26! The peg is just off the end of the island which today would be unreachable. However, pegs 14, 26,25,23 and 22 have been the inform pegs. </p><p>Short walk to the peg and was relieved to see that due to the wind driving into my peg had cleared most of the ice. Had a tap around with the pole to clear out to two barrels. Found myself next the the affable Steve Rodgers on peg 25. Very impressed how Steve spent an hour clearing all the ice form his peg almost down to empty peg 24. I'm not a fan of clearing too much ice as it does give fish some cover.</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWa8VGnJfeGwGhWfoo6yQ20u38AB30mVcPnHzjPlmtK9107sx_chrI15L3xKHwLiV6UDjPidGmXlvxBzRu2okiM1ZMk9i4ibiadDy0xU2s_ATubmmzDOFMEkCrjHmfJ0LI9F2EHaSjlPO6A8xzeafpBbRkyeK2NT3zipPV1ZWXd3KR7ZocnRR3-M1ZOoI/s900/DSCF2451.JPG" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="633" data-original-width="900" height="141" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiWa8VGnJfeGwGhWfoo6yQ20u38AB30mVcPnHzjPlmtK9107sx_chrI15L3xKHwLiV6UDjPidGmXlvxBzRu2okiM1ZMk9i4ibiadDy0xU2s_ATubmmzDOFMEkCrjHmfJ0LI9F2EHaSjlPO6A8xzeafpBbRkyeK2NT3zipPV1ZWXd3KR7ZocnRR3-M1ZOoI/w200-h141/DSCF2451.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>Set a 4x12 Winter Titan for one and two barrels distance in 6 foot of water, wasn't sure the Ronnie rig would be any good as the water was very clear, but set it up anyway in 3 foot of water Glad I did.<p></p><p>So it would be Pinkie and GB again, lots of confidence with this combo at the moment. A minute before the "all in" the wind picked up which was blowing into my peg at 10 o clock and blew a big raft of ice in front of me, so couldn't fish where I wanted. Would have meant using the ice breaker so decided to wait until the wind did the job. So started on the Ronnie rig with single Pinkie over GB. Had a few welcome tiny Perch and Ronnie's for about 8 oz when the ice was far enough to my right to start with the Winter at one barrel. But soon had to go up to a 4x14 due to conditions, which is where I stayed all match in-between trying the Ronnie rig. Double Pinkie here and had a nice steady day's fishing catching Skimmers to 1-1/2 lb and small Ronnie's to 3 oz. Had five Mirror Carp to 5 lb in-between catching silvers. Caught a Ronnie and when unshipping the number 3 the wind blew it in the pool - panic stations as I watched it it gradually sink. Got the weed cutter out and attached it to the landing net and first try retrieved it to my cheers. The wind got so bad could only just about hold the top two, presentation was awful during the final stages of the match. Then the rain came whilst packing up.</p><p>My silvers weighed 6 lb 7 oz and the five Carp went 15 lb 7 oz for a lake winning weight of 21 lb 14 oz. So here goes. <p></p><p>I have showed a few anglers this rig, some have said it's too fiddly or too complicated for them, some have adapted it to suit their way. The most important aspect of this rig is to minimise the amount of feed maximising the the number of fish caught. I have had 100 lb of silvers on less than 1 pint of casters. So give it a try.</p><p><b>History:</b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Arial;">Why have I named it the
Ronnie Rig? It originates from local angling legend and good friend Colin
Golding (RIP). Colin fished and ran the over 55’s at Hunstrete for many years. His
only bait for most of the year was 6 mm expander, purchasing a sack every year using
them for both hook bait and feeding, his target was Carp and Skimmers. However, as with many commercial fisheries there
is lots of small 2 – 3 oz Roach. These small Roach would nick his hooked
expanders frustrating him to regularly hear him shout “Fucking Ronnie’s”, never failed to amuse me. I had been fishing this rig for about 25 years and subsequently
name it “The Ronnie Rig” about 17 years ago.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b>Top Sets:</b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Arial;">The rig is “to hand” using
the top sets from my Drennan poles. I use top sets a lot, hence preference for long ones
which is the primary reason for choosing the Drennan Acolyte pole range. I have
all three Acolyte poles. Some of their top sets comprise two pieces – called “double top two’s”. This enables me to fish the rig short or long. The long rig
is usually fished out in front in the deeper water and the shortened top set
primarily down the edge or out in front shallow without change of depth. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b>Elastics:</b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Arial;">Over the years I have tried
various elastics, but have settled on the Drennan Power pull Green rated 9 – 11
which is reasonably priced and does two long top sets. When the long gets worn at
either the puller or connector it then recycles to the short top sets. I like a
bit of a “snotty nose” at the puller giving lighter strike. This elastic may
appear heavy for Roach fishing, however, light elastics tend to bounce when
swinging, a slight difference in fish weight can be hard to judge how far
to lift to hand and can catch you out, occasionally hitting the keepnet. Then, there is the likelihood of hooking a Carp which is always useful to land.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b>Rig Attachment:</b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Arial;">I have recently changed my
preferred elastic attachment to that previously explained in the following blog:-<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Arial;">https://silverfoxangling.blogspot.com/2023/11/monday-20112023-elastic-connection-rig.html</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b>Rig Line:</b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Arial;">My preference is 0.16 diameter
GLine. Again heavy you may think, but it helps with Carp proofing and rig line
longevity. Now for a bit of stress engineering, I use a single over hand knot
for both attachments to the elastic and hook length. This provides the smallest
stress concentration factor and allows better transfer of stresses from elastic to the
line, and line to hook length with reduced likelihood of breaking at the
knot preventing rig lose. However, all my hook length knots are figure of eights providing a higher
stress concentration factor with the anticipation of the hook length being the weakest link. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b>Floats:</b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Arial;">Again over the years I have
tried allsorts of floats, sometimes forced to change due to them becoming
obsolete. However, they all had wire stems for stability, roundish body to help
presentation in windy conditions and about 3.5 gram. The latest float and so far the best is the
Ryan Jordan’s Mini Lifters which has line through body. Ryan has made some specials for me mostly 0.3 to
0.4 gram, some with Niti wire through body, some with Carbon through body and some
with wire stems and carbon tips. All these floats have super sensitivity with
excellent visibility (I named them sensibilities). They are very robust floats. Shotting the through wires is
not as frustrating as some through wire such Sensas Pencil floats. I use the
wire through’s when it’s hard fishing primarily on the short top set. It’s
amazing how many indications you get with all these floats, there is some
learning in reading the indications and when to strike. Certainly lets you know
if there are any fish around. No indications then unlikely that there’s fish anywhere near the bait. My preference is yellow tips.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b>Shotting:</b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Arial;">On some occasions I’m speed
fishing catching small fish, the last thing you want is for shot to fall off or
start moving around on the line causing delays. I therefore use round shot,
after all you never see a submarine with a flat Bow. Ballabeni shot is my
choice in size 11’s which fits the 0.16 diameter line comfortably.
I try to avoid smaller shot but sometimes it’s necessary to use size 12 which I put as the dropper.<span style="mso-spacerun: yes;"> This </span>Shotting pattern was derived from a well
know angler Ray Mumford back 45 or so years. Ray often fished the Bristol Avon in search of the bigger matches and would call me late at night </span>for river status etc...sometimes when in bed! Ray had been to <st1:country-region w:st="on">France</st1:country-region>
fishing, primarily to get some inside information on the new method just
taking off here in the <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:country-region w:st="on">UK</st1:country-region></st1:place>
- pole fishing! He came back with what he called the Logarithmic Shotting pattern
(some anglers having recently utilised a similar shotting named it the “Taper Pattern”). I used
it on the river a few times on the long whip and Stick float but mostly on the Waggler,
but the pattern came into it’s own on Commercial and still venues where I discovered
its true value. It was really effective on the Gloucester Canal.</p><p class="MsoNormal">Then there is the important back shot. Again a number 11 shot which starts off at approximately 12 inches from the tip of the float. I can adjust the visibility and sensitivity of the float either up or down by moving the shot either further up the line to rise the float or nearer the float to lower it. The moving of the shot is regularly used throughout the match dependant on the cooperation of the Ronnie's.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Arial;">I have a bit of a reputation
for being sparing with the feed – told I starve the fish on the hook. All not
quite as it appears. The floats take about 10 number 11 shot and simulate
feeding caster with the shot making the similar noise hitting the water to casters and falling at about the same rate, giving the effect of feeding 10 casters every put in, spread along the
rigs length, enabling catching fish at all depths through an arc. Think 3D fishing. I try to loose feed along the arc line mimicking the shot.
Shotting pattern can be easily adjusted to weigh down or weigh up.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Arial;">I remember Coilin Golding coming back from the world Championship's in France and his first comment to me was -<i> "Can't understand the French they put the majority of their shot and the top and very little at the bottom"</i>. Which back then was opposite to our way of fishing.</span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b>Hooks and hook Lengths:</b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Arial;">I use Tubertini 808 hooks
due to the weight to strength ratio and particular like the wide gape, primarily sizes 18 to
20. Line again is GLine 0.14 diameter for “all in” matches, switching to 0.1
diameter for silvers only matches as Carp protection. Seven turns is ample for hook to line blood knot. I use 0.14 diameter as think it more important to have a stiff line rather than small diameter particularly
of on commercial fisheries. Always use 6 inch hook lengths, if using 0.14 diameter then bottom shot can safely moved to the hook length if required. </span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Arial;">I will say if you have a preference to a
specific hook and line type which you have faith in then stick with it.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><b>Application:</b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Rigs are initially set to dead depth and sometimes increase depth or shallow up as the match progresses. The session is usually kicked off by feeding a small ball of GB (whatever is your favourite/manufacture) laced with caster on top of the float
which in my case is top set plus one barrel for the long rig and just a top set
for the short rig. I start fishing over this with weight down which is more
suitable for Skimmers. During the next few minutes I can tell what’s feeding in
the peg. I usually start then loose feeding casters or maggot as appropriate, topping up with the GB as required. I try never
to use a landing net as I’m sure the more the fish are being played and being
chased by a landing net the more likelihood it will spook other fish near by. Will drop a few ounces swinging, but still worth it. If Ronnie’s becomes the
primary target then I switch to the shot weight up, but this dependant on how they
are feeding. Casting can vary to suit, can slap it down or lay it lighter over
head or under hand for an even gentler lay in.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Arial;"><o:p> </o:p></span><b>Species:</b></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-family: Arial;">This rig is specifically for
Roach (Ronnie’s), Rudd, Perch and the occasional Skimmer. The "looking up fish" Carp and F1’s don’t particularly
like the falling arc presentation the rig provides.</span></p><p class="MsoNormal"></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwcNUyb_6wGjmpINpW-TJpk9MuLrNTBjdS5f7I1b3v_u9r1qK9NspqIiFgrEiaadHKNdanddYOQB35r87aI1pzrKdEIR-l0Fz5ktqp0t6LdvWYsfZj_VX8IcpM5VUo7O62bXYp7qaRsA1Dfp0vCBHOYShGfaSJnQzGHwCDCi6Yl2lHc_6DjI0qj0Gi-hw/s960/Ronnie.jpg" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="720" data-original-width="960" height="300" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiwcNUyb_6wGjmpINpW-TJpk9MuLrNTBjdS5f7I1b3v_u9r1qK9NspqIiFgrEiaadHKNdanddYOQB35r87aI1pzrKdEIR-l0Fz5ktqp0t6LdvWYsfZj_VX8IcpM5VUo7O62bXYp7qaRsA1Dfp0vCBHOYShGfaSJnQzGHwCDCi6Yl2lHc_6DjI0qj0Gi-hw/w400-h300/Ronnie.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br /><span style="font-family: Arial;"><br /></span><p></p>Silverfox Match Anglinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14766712605215137930noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3981431156970664881.post-17180504416474094212024-01-08T11:53:00.003+00:002024-01-08T11:53:52.905+00:00Sunday 07-01-2024 - Westerleigh Winter League - Round 3 - Shipp's Canal and Taylor's Pool<p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLiz5_g3i7csm7B3wvjmIM95AuP7r23_CcX9lQZvatT7AVlZUsBShlmjME7kV6mMlak1ipW61efGFWjYRCUEbVh7cu39I6WonP3UoLMMLUK7y4XrOPypw92xDStNp2eJOn_7ch_UleG3ZIxhAlzxCwKt_JsHLTwF1X8pTEQvva_9ctebLIVIYrwOgFApM/s900/DSCF2425.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="575" data-original-width="900" height="127" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLiz5_g3i7csm7B3wvjmIM95AuP7r23_CcX9lQZvatT7AVlZUsBShlmjME7kV6mMlak1ipW61efGFWjYRCUEbVh7cu39I6WonP3UoLMMLUK7y4XrOPypw92xDStNp2eJOn_7ch_UleG3ZIxhAlzxCwKt_JsHLTwF1X8pTEQvva_9ctebLIVIYrwOgFApM/w200-h127/DSCF2425.JPG" width="200" /></a></div><p>Driving down the short access road my car exhaust bottomed out in the water which initially concerned me as plenty of steam coming up. Opposite on peg 6 Ricky Mills but too far for a chat, bit of a lonely corner peg. The Canal was very coloured - red!<p></p><p>Looking forward to a good plumb around which always excites me on a new peg. Decided to initially focus on silvers as thought it would fish hard at top set plus two barrels with just the one rig - as I could get away with a light float due to the conditions selected a 4x12 Winter to fish in just over 4 foot of water. Fed the one line with GB and LR's and with single on the hook first put in the float appeared to be over shotted - lifted it and dropped it in again and the float disappeared and had a 7 lb Carp on which had to be played carefully due to a stony ledge close in. Guessing the Carp had already eaten my small offerings so fed again and another 7 lb Cap in the net. Repeated this two more times to have around 27 lb in the net with 45 minutes into the match - not use these better pegs. The excitement soon calmed as started to get some small Skimmers my original quarry. Have a good first half of the match adding the odd Skimmer and Ronnie. Second half was a real struggle. Tried various lines by just adjusting the depth. Added a couple of small F1's, loosing a couple. With facing South the Sun was an issue which dictated where to fish. Had a good few lines going. Hooked a 8 oz Skimmer on a 11.5 metre line and shipped the pole back under the roller so instead of breaking down to keep elastic tensioned shipped forward only to lose the fish - bugger. Had a few occasions where my shipping could have been more careful loosing some Ronnie's to-boot. Lesson learnt.</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjL0PHUZDB90nKiYQbTVxwIE-LzetZbZJNPb6l772MZnKBbIRISTdVb40pp4PCotD12KW0fxqKq7j2wYnrPM38EBp638I1EGppd1acqi8jOaNddhnHzWj0ufg10cR1gVbz70_tKfhzmKO4vIOuZeojupHq2DgE1H9ab3UGAYUWHXn-Z_1lwGjdio3ReZaQ/s900/DSCF2423.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="480" data-original-width="900" height="107" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjL0PHUZDB90nKiYQbTVxwIE-LzetZbZJNPb6l772MZnKBbIRISTdVb40pp4PCotD12KW0fxqKq7j2wYnrPM38EBp638I1EGppd1acqi8jOaNddhnHzWj0ufg10cR1gVbz70_tKfhzmKO4vIOuZeojupHq2DgE1H9ab3UGAYUWHXn-Z_1lwGjdio3ReZaQ/w200-h107/DSCF2423.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>Silvers weighed 4 lb 6 oz - 1 oz from winning the silvers. They get the weather right, but they have yet to learn to tell the time and with some not knowing what day it is!<p></p><p>First round today of the silvers pairs. I was drawn with Phil Morgan, happy with this.</p><p>With the incessant rain the lakes have most probably by now have had a complete change of water, so can expect some really harder fishing. Had a quick look at the pool and was surprised to see some colour - probably due to the gale force winds. We need a period of dry cold weather.</p><p>Into the draw bag and out comes peg 50 - behind the island again! Can't believe it. For company on 49 Paul Haines and on 51 Tony Rixon so there will be a few laughs to keep us entertained. aged 87 on New Years Eve.<p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Colin Golding Born 21st November 1936 in <st1:street w:st="on"><st1:address w:st="on">24 Queens Road</st1:address></st1:street>,
Kingswood Bristol, and still lived there up to a few days ago. In some ways this
sums up Colin or as some named him “Mr Pastry” or “Our Col”.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Colin married just the once which lasted six months, but both
remained good friends.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Colin did an Engineering Apprenticeship, becoming a
Draughtsman specialising in detail Gear design. This occupation required
mathematic dexterity and hand printing skills, which Colin has in abundance –
Never made a mistake in calculating the pools. Colin spent the majority of his
working life at Rolls Royce Engines at Patchway, <st1:city w:st="on"><st1:place w:st="on">Bristol</st1:place></st1:city>. Colin had a fall out with management
about promotion and went on strike, as he reminded us on a good few occasions
he is technically still on strike after some 40 years.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">We often use the word Angling Legend lightly. However, in
Colin’s case this without doubt applies. Colin is a Legend in Match Angling not
only in the South West but is also well respected throughout Anglings fraternity.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Colin was coached and encouraged by his father George both
fishing for the local club Adults AA. Father and son are renowned for there
post match arguments over how badly each other fished. Colin won his first
senior open match at the tender age of 15 after previously winning the Adults AA
Juvenile cup a few times.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><o:p> </o:p>In 1956 at the age of 19 having qualified for the <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:city w:st="on">Bristol</st1:city></st1:place> and West All
England Team Colin was elected team Captain. A big honour back then as it was
hard enough to qualify for the team. The team finished 26th out of
94 teams taking place on the River Witham. It was during the 1964 National
Championship representing the Bristol and West fished on the river Severn that
Colin caught 500 Bleak for 14lb 6 ½ oz for 5th overall out of 1,284 competing anglers. Catching these small fish was a skill Colin had honed
catching Dace on the Bristol Avon. </p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Colin was the most consistent angler in the South West for
17 years. Regularly winning and framing on a majority of venues, especially the
Bristol Avon and River Huntspill. Colin Captained the Golden Carp AA
South West Winter League Team which regularly won the league to take on national team winners in the finals held in <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:country-region w:st="on">Ireland</st1:country-region></st1:place>.</p><p class="MsoNormal">The pinnacle of Colin’s angling career came in 1973 when he
was selected to represent his country in the World Championship to be fished on
a Lake in <st1:city w:st="on">Chalon-Sur-Saone</st1:city> <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:country-region w:st="on">France</st1:country-region></st1:place> on July 22nd. The final team of five to fish was picked
the day before the match and unfortunately Colin ended up as Reserve. On his
return Colin having been on “Strike” started work with an agency and low and
behold he arrived in the next drawing office to my design office. How lucky
was I, we spent plenty of time chatting about fishing. It was Colin that
recommended I join a winter league team, because it was the best place to
learn and develop. He was right.</p><p class="MsoNormal"></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSRmAMZGmLaOnb_Ng-q4BbhzOyuec3xkRSbteRf_w3M5BBj9cuWY6OM02WWsDOCEVhmfaEcZGROiFB8jL74xykHWakI0bj8NMB0wCp1f_cKBXsYTQwwUWyKrjyYEeItf5TM17MNO58F0LgDd7nq0cROnK8G01P2Rj8UZXSwSJ8WllO-ggAVYmciod7DLo/s804/col3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="310" data-original-width="804" height="123" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjSRmAMZGmLaOnb_Ng-q4BbhzOyuec3xkRSbteRf_w3M5BBj9cuWY6OM02WWsDOCEVhmfaEcZGROiFB8jL74xykHWakI0bj8NMB0wCp1f_cKBXsYTQwwUWyKrjyYEeItf5TM17MNO58F0LgDd7nq0cROnK8G01P2Rj8UZXSwSJ8WllO-ggAVYmciod7DLo/s320/col3.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">George Crookes was one of the few anglers to threaten Colin
over a long spell of domination on the Bristol Avon until Mike Jones appeared on the match scene in
the 1970’s taking over his crown. During the 90’s Colin turned his attention to
fishing the King of Clubs in <st1:place w:st="on"><st1:country-region w:st="on">Ireland</st1:country-region></st1:place>
making a name for himself battering Sid Huggins of the next peg a few times
which Sid found hard to take especially having taken the piss out of Colin
because of the state of his tackle. The then World Champion Bob Nudd said of
Colin “It’s amazing what Colin does with such crappy tackle”. I’ve got news for
you Sid, Colin (or Mr Pastry as you named him) has been battering us in the
south West for five Generations. Colin has continued to win and frame regularly
up until a few years ago, winning a match at Acorn Fishery in 2012. </p>
<p class="MsoNormal">I was lucky enough to fish in the Golden Carp team under
Colin’s captaincy in one of the top winter league teams with the largest number of teams taking part at the time.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Colin is not only a legend with regard to his angling but
equally because of character. There are endless stories. Ask anyone that has fished with him, they will have a story or two. I would love to sit down with the likes of Bob Price and Bill Ferris to pen some of the better one's.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Just a few of Colin's achievements: England Cap France - Gladding Masters final – Woodbine Final
Denmark – AT Winter League Finals Ireland. I was lucky enough to borrow Colin's scrap book which can be seen in this blog labelled "Coilin Golding" or copy paste the link below.</p><p class="MsoNormal"><i>https://silverfoxangling.blogspot.com/search/label/Colin%20Golding%27s%20Scrap%20Book</i></p>
<p class="MsoNormal">Colin would never be influenced by fellow anglers whether it
was match pegging, pools, payouts, tackle or how to fish. In fact the
reverse was often true. Colin influenced many of his peers with them mimicking his top and bottom Peacock floats. What anyone may say about Colin – HE DID IT HIS WAY for which he was admired. I was looking forward to getting out fishing, so booked into Kev's knock up on the Top Lake - silvers only. Ten booked in with Jeff Grant dropping out once he tested the walk - you did right you wouldn't have made it mate with your short legs. <p></p><p>Walked the gear up (I mean up) to the lake which was physically challenging due mainly to the water logged fields. Helped Kev peg it out and as we were told by Andy "misinformation" Gard that Paul Barnfield had switched to the Match Lake match suggested we leave out peg 1 which was full on in the wind. Luckily Kev didn't listen because Paul arrived last. Kev admitted that fishing this Lake today wasn't his best decision of the year! Andy Misinformation had to sit in peg 1 - did feel for him.</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3EhZdLK1V-ClbN_1qwuQJxqBTKC2IP1UvYcvuYJAWpI45JtmOLJLv0F5P0gHiF8nyyyfdd8FmFg-lmLfNcLlcsplnUslSTNlP_Lryz3JERO4QtPwAZFaR_hfkhOG4vhNTc3D3atiSSa_BbvXk7q44iaqSG1SAiRU6gw9vfeoD-NxjP59pTxucgUuiRpM/s900/FB_IMG_1703790045037.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="470" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh3EhZdLK1V-ClbN_1qwuQJxqBTKC2IP1UvYcvuYJAWpI45JtmOLJLv0F5P0gHiF8nyyyfdd8FmFg-lmLfNcLlcsplnUslSTNlP_Lryz3JERO4QtPwAZFaR_hfkhOG4vhNTc3D3atiSSa_BbvXk7q44iaqSG1SAiRU6gw9vfeoD-NxjP59pTxucgUuiRpM/w104-h200/FB_IMG_1703790045037.jpg" width="104" /></a></div>Picked peg 2 (pictured) in the form of a scrunched up tiny piece of paper from Kev's shovel like hand. Slightly in the wind but thought would be OK. Only one rig a 4 x16 Winter Titan. Plumbed around and found it sloped off from 3 foot to I'm nor sure but deeper that 8 foot at 6 metres. Decided to fish 5 foot at top set plus one barrel with GB and Pinkie. Started reasonably well catching small Skimmers and Ronnie's. The issue was the tow and presentation. There appeared to be plenty of small Skimmers in the peg but was towing into them foul hooking and coming off, very frustrating. The peg died until after I foul hooked a Carp which came off. Had a few more small fish but it gradually got worse. With 3/4 hour to go I could see a very very dark cloud heading our way and with thinking a still bait might be the answer set up a small cage feeder. The wind and rain that followed was horrendous. Had two small Skimmers on the feeder. Judging by the time the feeder was sinking gave the impression that the lake shallowed at 20 metres or so. We were all glad to hear the all out.<p></p><p>The digital scales arrived which weren't working right, not zeroing or showing any weight when loaded. After pressing a few buttons got it to read a weight albeit still not fully zeroing. So my weight had 2 oz deducted. Why I mention this, there has been a number of occasions when these type of digital scales have had issues. I am sure my weight was about right, but these episodes always leave you wondering though. Don't think you can beat dial scales.</p><p>I weighed 3 lb 12 oz for last but one in what was a tight match and with reasonable weights considering the conditions and how other fisheries are fishing for silvers at the moment.</p><p>Paul Barnfield won the match with weight of 8 lb 9 oz. Paul caught short on either caster of maggot over GB. I think with him nearly walking around the complete lake to find his peg helped him focus - lol. He wasn't happy. Character building I say. Well done matey well deserved.</p><p>I thought going back down hill would be better but only just, still had to push hard. Glad to get back to the car and home for a pint in the garage.</p><p>Would be a decent silvers knock up venue during the dry season!</p><p>Will be keeping out of crowded pubs for a while, don't want to catch anything else.</p><p><b>Weigh Sheet:</b></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjr7NzJk4NwcsGamd5ooZUhBAwcozGadCT2ltPmFWnclB6nktK68N-4e9wUEfeKqahwAsINE4TdlNSweZdcf8dkNzqn9Kry0y8LKvcf548wdgYO3iX_s1VOs66IDmOzi1FC9FCMWiyy1Gk2rOkMWjw9xeD44MU5sb6COVjZBAKq6ZFVsvtHpTYqmoknRnY/s900/FB_IMG_1703790101275.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="884" data-original-width="900" height="314" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjr7NzJk4NwcsGamd5ooZUhBAwcozGadCT2ltPmFWnclB6nktK68N-4e9wUEfeKqahwAsINE4TdlNSweZdcf8dkNzqn9Kry0y8LKvcf548wdgYO3iX_s1VOs66IDmOzi1FC9FCMWiyy1Gk2rOkMWjw9xeD44MU5sb6COVjZBAKq6ZFVsvtHpTYqmoknRnY/s320/FB_IMG_1703790101275.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p><p><br /></p>Silverfox Match Anglinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14766712605215137930noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3981431156970664881.post-27104635813948116502023-12-23T11:33:00.000+00:002023-12-23T11:33:00.430+00:00HELP Request<p>Fellow South West Anglers could please have a look at the following pictures to see if you can help me find the location<span style="white-space-collapse: preserve;"> of three venues. Nope peg 16 again for me. Had a sniff of my Bib and Brace as I thought it might be the closest I would get to any fish!! Found myself between Mark peg 17 and Vince peg 15 and a bloody cold wind in the smacker. Tony drew peg 16 last match and had 13 oz. However, I had drawn this peg many times (too many) and now think I was ready to get the best from it - that's all you can hope for. With very few Carp coming from this area I would target Silvers.</div><div><br /></div><div>Set the waggler up purely to use whilst drinking a cuppa. Didn't have a bite on it, visibility and my feeding into the wind was awful. Three rigs 2 - 4 x14's one to fish at top set plus one up the shelf and the other to fish one more barrel at full depth, about 12 inches different. Plus the short Ronnie rig. Maggot, GB and wetted micro on the table - simple.</div><div><br /></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfwYaTuSW9DHqPx5L81-ap5joZv2ZEnb-G2_vGJwKnsx5iCK4p29lqwRqN-bowXBoIKiLCxFLIZKjhgmvtGN9YkRtFrQvyzTL9xENhvXqVY8IvnqjrE1ivsDdk1KWK5heaTUQysbF5Dz7ITqkHI0YwICkdemazlL8nQouqHemSTWxCfzS8gVuEavv9lVI/s900/IMG_20231217_154447.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="418" data-original-width="900" height="93" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgfwYaTuSW9DHqPx5L81-ap5joZv2ZEnb-G2_vGJwKnsx5iCK4p29lqwRqN-bowXBoIKiLCxFLIZKjhgmvtGN9YkRtFrQvyzTL9xENhvXqVY8IvnqjrE1ivsDdk1KWK5heaTUQysbF5Dz7ITqkHI0YwICkdemazlL8nQouqHemSTWxCfzS8gVuEavv9lVI/w200-h93/IMG_20231217_154447.jpg" width="200" /></a></div>Plan was to feed the four lines the same with GB laced with DR's and the long line with GB laced with micro. Start on the top set Plus one line and work out to the longer line then on to the Ronnie rig, all with single LR hook bait. The short line produced a few small skimmers and a F1, after which the line died. So out on the long line and had a decent skimmer and a few Ronnie's before I killed it off with too much feed! Spent the second half on the match on the short Ronnie rig switching from side to side to keep small Ronnie's and Perch coming steady to the end - including another decent Skimmer and a 8 oz Ronnie 😁.</div><div><br /></div><div>I was surprised to see my silvers weigh 9 lb 15 oz and the lake silvers win. The lonely F1 weighed 1 lb 6 oz for a total of 11 lb 5 oz. Certainly would have settled with that at the draw. Really enjoyed the day except for the cold facing wind.</div><div><br /></div><div>Our lake was won by Martin Mc Mahon (<i>pictured with the silvers winner - a rare picture with Martin smiling</i>) with 38 lb 13 oz from fancied peg 22. Well done Matey.</div><div><br /></div><div>Shipp's Canal was won by Bela Bakos (<i>pictured with the joint silvers winners - Bill and Johnny both having 5 lb 12 oz</i>) with 60 lb 3 oz from fancied peg 2. Into the the car boot and found peg disc 13 starting back at me - Oh yes 13 is a peg you don't want on Shipp's in the early matches - bugger.</p><p>Nice comfortable peg with a few well made steps down to the peg. Peg 13 is very shallow and was very clear today and could see the bottom two metres out. This would mean fishing long. Last year I drew it in the practice match and having tried the waggler to no avail didn't bother setting it up and knowing it was about the same 3 foot all over only set a 12x14 Winter Titan, to fish on two lines both at 10 metres one in front and the other at 2 o'clock to the right.</p><p>Fed the right side only to start, with some micro and DR's and with double on the hook and after 15 minutes had one micro Perch in the net. Now the rub on this peg is you can see all the better pegs which can be very frustrating being distracted by anglers striking and with most of them having a Carp or three in this time, knew the writing was on the wall as anticipated - going to be last on the pool. So a switch to GB and Pinkie on both lines caught small Ronnie's steady regularly switching. It wasn't until the last hour that by changing my feeding that my catch rate increased. I did have a 4 lb Carp and losing one fouler which would have given me some additional points - but I was resigned to my first dropper.</p><p>My all Ronnie catch weighed 5lb 12 oz which was second silvers weight on the pool by 1 oz to Steve Rogers! However, Steve picked up second on the pool so a default silvers win for me - Perhaps peg 13 isn't that bad after all!!!! The Carp weighed 3 lb 12 oz and as expected last in the section. Hoping my back will be OK in the morning after swinging 10 metres all day. What was interesting when I returned the one Carp it stayed more or less where it would have been in the keepnet?</p><p>Shipps Pool was won by Bri Shanks (<i>pictured with a 14 lb Common in his catch</i>) with 79 lb 10 oz from peg 1. Bri caught 3/4's over using maggot hook bait over kindered micro and maggot. Well done matey.</p><p>Andy won Taylors Pool with a lowly 15 lb 1 oz from peg 26 - Andy had gone early so did know how he caught - Well done Matey.</p><p>The weigh sheet for Taylor's Pool isn't very clear - not a bad thing! Next match 17/12/2023 will I avoid pegs 15 and 16?</p><p>Back to the New Inn for a well earned pint.</p><p><b>Weigh Sheets:</b></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYyKv9Up6jHnQ-8H2pQEwlKaTZneKZ46-GLuTV9gfIlBHh4ZoW7J9Tliczj3jCrHhRbjk4hnxgpEKNRO8Bhj-BIv1L2LUcQToEyhkHyOR1wlC2Xc0HeFFnHdfStIv-EAVIKNYsHFNxUSouNbPwAmknfd0V6tocLDd_rurzl-kvuSyVNuUl4cTbZjw0aWM/s900/DSCF2401.JPG" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="888" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhYyKv9Up6jHnQ-8H2pQEwlKaTZneKZ46-GLuTV9gfIlBHh4ZoW7J9Tliczj3jCrHhRbjk4hnxgpEKNRO8Bhj-BIv1L2LUcQToEyhkHyOR1wlC2Xc0HeFFnHdfStIv-EAVIKNYsHFNxUSouNbPwAmknfd0V6tocLDd_rurzl-kvuSyVNuUl4cTbZjw0aWM/s320/DSCF2401.JPG" width="316" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJjOhRHI4enBgM1Ow2GpIs6KMEKwC5fqB7V3hzy44-OdslhA6lurQCxA6LVc2O7-Gg9Y_y9VmZHgrf4u9BzD_UMqu9e9WlVKC4WKuFle2yrazX0LNfpUXeSwQKlfff34jnmHw0lsZO1gygg2E8pkshXQHnjfsl8qXewqmq8tXhDq1Dn9h79ch0qEtiZMg/s900/DSCF2400.JPG" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="833" height="320" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJjOhRHI4enBgM1Ow2GpIs6KMEKwC5fqB7V3hzy44-OdslhA6lurQCxA6LVc2O7-Gg9Y_y9VmZHgrf4u9BzD_UMqu9e9WlVKC4WKuFle2yrazX0LNfpUXeSwQKlfff34jnmHw0lsZO1gygg2E8pkshXQHnjfsl8qXewqmq8tXhDq1Dn9h79ch0qEtiZMg/s320/DSCF2400.JPG" width="296" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p>Silverfox Match Anglinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14766712605215137930noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3981431156970664881.post-50494649643143134352023-11-27T11:47:00.000+00:002023-11-27T11:47:08.585+00:00Sunday 26/11/2023 - Westerleigh Winter League - Practice Match - Taylor's and Shipp's<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRexKipj33OrRFbZmSTR9EXsOJRVc5UV35Ec6X-WqgsoMEZ40x3uEHEkgMMsMr_jHqL7CnDSCpP1dhw8jOZRtg22xe147kFh9DMFEcZymDktVv355xO6U5RdZPCbMY-N7ZUO0eIWns_BeZuNhuA6Ba0P53aDnSH9TG9zWX16VcTNQekYVOYS_e8BGgsgk/s900/DSCF2398.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="474" data-original-width="900" height="106" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRexKipj33OrRFbZmSTR9EXsOJRVc5UV35Ec6X-WqgsoMEZ40x3uEHEkgMMsMr_jHqL7CnDSCpP1dhw8jOZRtg22xe147kFh9DMFEcZymDktVv355xO6U5RdZPCbMY-N7ZUO0eIWns_BeZuNhuA6Ba0P53aDnSH9TG9zWX16VcTNQekYVOYS_e8BGgsgk/w200-h106/DSCF2398.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>It's amazing how the weather changes at the start of Winter league. Heart sank seeing peg 16 staring back at me. Bri Shanks was next door on 15. All the pegs on our bank were in with peg 19 having two pegs to his right and one to his left empty.</div><div><br /></div><div>Got in a bit of a muddle tackling up, so not quite ready at the all in. Waggler set up, Short Ronnie rig and a 4x14 Winter Titan. Fed a short line and one further out at bottom of shelf for the Titan with GB and Pinkie. Started long and had a little run of Ronnie's and a Goldfish which count as silvers. Decided to put a smaller hook on and in the process trashed the rig - Oh <b><span style="color: red;">"Snickers".</span></b> As we know the substitute rig never seems to be the same. Only had one Crucian afterwards. Tried the waggler with LR's over pulted LR's had one tiny Ronnie and with Brian fishing 14 .5 metres over to the bar and struggling I gave it in. Put another section on and fed some LR's and micro before trying the Ronnie rig which did produce a small Skimmer and some Ronnie's but they didn't seem to like the GB so switched to loose fed Pinkie. Out on the new line and one more Crucian. So spent the last knockings on the Ronnie rig, but didn't expect any Silvers coin as Lee Waller on peg 14 was catch accidently Skimmers long at 16 metres on pellet for 6 lb 7 oz. As per usual the rain came down harder as we packing up - great.</div><div><br /></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_f3m7LghuaZzyJ8L05vkIP5jB_aMwiTOwf6NHuZXKqIW17SnoEs0Qcm6CgPdm4DbfBhXtBBTQ-hZbcU8NpdyhIkUwVA4Oofab6UyDOESVkh9mhCGEK6PbXtbyFmy6qB0ZgZ2_lJn7vwhR5mkXTyhKMNep6tui69JQg0OkbtYr2_kEvcUJ_hQPtNTo1Og/s900/DSCF2392.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="900" data-original-width="635" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg_f3m7LghuaZzyJ8L05vkIP5jB_aMwiTOwf6NHuZXKqIW17SnoEs0Qcm6CgPdm4DbfBhXtBBTQ-hZbcU8NpdyhIkUwVA4Oofab6UyDOESVkh9mhCGEK6PbXtbyFmy6qB0ZgZ2_lJn7vwhR5mkXTyhKMNep6tui69JQg0OkbtYr2_kEvcUJ_hQPtNTo1Og/w141-h200/DSCF2392.JPG" width="141" /></a></div>My few silvers weighed 4 lb 9 oz for no where the two Crucians went 1 lb 1 oz. No sign of a Carp, Bri only had the two. Matey Bill Ferris could only manage 6 tiny fish for a DNW on peg 25.</div><div><br /></div><div>The lake was won as expected by the two anglers with some room - Norman Ferris (<i>pictured</i>) on peg 19 with 25 lb 5 oz catching on pastey maggots (don't ask) fished short!! Geoff Francis (<i>pictured</i>) was a close second with 24 lb from peg 22 Geoff caught on worm at 11 metres.</div><div> </div><div>The match was won by Bela Bakos (<i>pictured with the Silvers winner</i>) from peg 10 on Shipp's with 71 lb 10 oz. Bela fished long 1 metre off the island with 6 mm hard over 4 mm loose feed. Later going 16 metres down to peg 9 adding some more decent Carp. Well done Matey.</div><div><br /></div><div>The Silvers went to stand in Paul Elms with a decent catch of Roach and a smattering of Skimmers for 10 lb 14 oz from peg 4. Suspect the Biomass is still too high 😄.<p></p><p>I walked up behind the island to check the leaf situation - pegs 47,48 and 49 were iffy so these were left out. Peg 50 would be OK if the leaves stayed put!! Didn't want to draw there again at the moment.</p><p>Chatting with Barny he was spot on with his prediction of only 7 lb needed to frame.</p><p>Into the draw bag and couldn't believe to see peg 50 staring back at me - bugger, just recovered from fishing peg 49 Saturday. For company I had Mick Gale the 0.08 specialist on peg 51 - one of my favourite pegs.</p><p>Peg 50 is a peg you really need to fish long but is hampered by the Otter fence - you either go over the fence, break down or as I did ship along the bank. Choose the latter because from experience Saturday expected to catch small fish the other options were more likely to cause pull- outs.</p><p></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBRo2O3xC_P-VBRMnS9zqSvzs4UvW9RKhR_StIVQ2ZuuJh8H7B5DwLtLb23s72rq_-1G8r7vbHDHGSxhP5UvbfJw2BAu5WTnMYPfuMJ5PMviFQR5_aG8aX5KXrLjF3UfBbEyG4FBobW71CRrsMInlRIxUVGOdIy6x-1_7QDO1L1Y3NcSnYsE37lnQVJsk/s900/DSCF2391.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="897" data-original-width="900" height="199" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgBRo2O3xC_P-VBRMnS9zqSvzs4UvW9RKhR_StIVQ2ZuuJh8H7B5DwLtLb23s72rq_-1G8r7vbHDHGSxhP5UvbfJw2BAu5WTnMYPfuMJ5PMviFQR5_aG8aX5KXrLjF3UfBbEyG4FBobW71CRrsMInlRIxUVGOdIy6x-1_7QDO1L1Y3NcSnYsE37lnQVJsk/w200-h199/DSCF2391.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>Did set up the waggler and on hindsight should have initially fished the feeder - expect another bollocking from Rich Coles - next time! By time we started the waggler line was leaved out. So spent the whole match on the 4x14 Winter switching between 0.1 with 22 - 808 and 0.08 and a 22 green GP04 Kamasan - the lighter rig made no difference to my catch rate. The wind did change pushing the leaves up and down my peg. Overcame this by having two lines left and right using the clearest line as and when, bit of a pain. Fished Pinkie and GB on both lines for about 30 Ronnie's. Hooked what initially behaved like a big Skimmer until lifting the top set and could see it was a big Perch at the same time it ran towards the bank and broke 0.1! There is a lot of snags close in, which probably helped cause the break. This was to cost me second section. Hooked just the one Carp. With 30 minutes to go a dew started falling making shipping the pole sticky. Think we were all glad to hear the all out. <p></p><p>Weighed 3 lb 4 oz which was disappointing didn't have a sign of any Skimmers I caught Saturday. This was about halfway - it fished awful. Most of the framing weights came by early fishing of the feeder.</p><p>The match was won by Tony Ponting (<i>pictured supping a well earned pint</i>) with 7 lb 3 oz from peg 63. Tony had 50/50 feeder and pole, with his catch being bolstered by a 3 lb Bream. Mostly caught on maggot and GB. Well done matey.</p><p>Back to the Compton with a full house of suspects.</p><p><b>Weigh Sheets:</b></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgosUlr2qfop49nF3YULn_IBasIvHq2Qw_9K0bBgscnCytW5dQnjc15k8CC_wV1gVTWaBeD2D1RZL21THBiixuCf8O1hYMgBV0Tlb_NH2CIBM_wHYhCQSDOJgV3HG3Sb-ffrl2bUG3APwju7AUUluerKzUlOha_kzvwvpJcNbqUi6sMOIcFie_8exEvqKY/s900/DSCF2390.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="520" data-original-width="900" height="185" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgosUlr2qfop49nF3YULn_IBasIvHq2Qw_9K0bBgscnCytW5dQnjc15k8CC_wV1gVTWaBeD2D1RZL21THBiixuCf8O1hYMgBV0Tlb_NH2CIBM_wHYhCQSDOJgV3HG3Sb-ffrl2bUG3APwju7AUUluerKzUlOha_kzvwvpJcNbqUi6sMOIcFie_8exEvqKY/s320/DSCF2390.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJkLgIqcAOMyoC3BQNjx-0A1x-3m7ZmO9RYnFh9szmRiwqd3dWwS0ZpVveWKnomtFm_9RR9ijjDM0FNkhwS3X_24DkSj3iB7rP-gPirnQGFWUTQGHA-n6mhSKu7X4Bh6VYJDndoZVmEWIePgIDyHBcKNNf3iAoZrOuRZKG-sLRbGbi4QjrrdLEOpyPSEs/s900/DSCF2389.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="534" data-original-width="900" height="190" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjJkLgIqcAOMyoC3BQNjx-0A1x-3m7ZmO9RYnFh9szmRiwqd3dWwS0ZpVveWKnomtFm_9RR9ijjDM0FNkhwS3X_24DkSj3iB7rP-gPirnQGFWUTQGHA-n6mhSKu7X4Bh6VYJDndoZVmEWIePgIDyHBcKNNf3iAoZrOuRZKG-sLRbGbi4QjrrdLEOpyPSEs/s320/DSCF2389.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br /><p><br /></p>Silverfox Match Anglinghttp://www.blogger.com/profile/14766712605215137930noreply@blogger.com0
